We’re thrilled to share some wonderful Marine news from our shores: African Parks has been managing the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park over the last few years with a 25-year management plan, in partnership with Mozambique’s National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC). This marks African Parks’ very first marine reserve—an exciting milestone that has brought renewed energy and expertise to our beloved islands & Marine Life
Their presence means stronger conservation science, improved law enforcement on the water, and deeper protection for the park’s extraordinary wildlife. Bazaruto is home to the last viable population of dugongs in the Western Indian Ocean, and a new satellite-tagging project is already underway to better understand and safeguard these gentle giants’ movements. Alongside this, African Parks is increasing efforts that support both conservation and community well-being, ensuring that local families benefit from a healthy environment through nature-based tourism and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
